The Craftsman in Kazanlak

Modern day artists experiment with different materials, styles, forms and colours. Thracian and still life themes are common, but there are also more modern, abstract designs in both wooden and metal plastic arts, and sculpture. Painted ceramics and glass works are a fitting artistic decoration for any home. The jewels (mostly silver) crafted by the Kazanlak masters are elaborate yet unpretentious. The craftsmen are also exploring the possibilities of other natural materials (hemp, semiprecious stones, leather), ceramics etc. Among the oldest crafts in Kazanlak is that of the coppersmith, legacy of the ancient Thracians. Crafts found in almost every village and every home are knitting, woodworking, bagpipe making, cutlery making, pottery making etc. The artworks of many modern day artists from Kazanlak are showcased at the Information Center Art Gallery and the private Ruvel Art Gallery as well as the many souvenir shops across Kazanlak. But you can also visit their ateliers in person and become acquainted with their art.
